Our admin staff is 100% volunteer-based. Every dollar donated goes to direct animal care and support. All of ABC’s funding comes from donations and grants.

Thank You HTC Piercing!

Lola Rescued, but Her Puppies are Missing
Lola and her puppies were found near 43rd and Glendale, but by the time ABC volunteers arrived someone had taken the puppies away from her. Sweet Lola is now safe at ABC, but the puppies could be in jeopardy without their mother.

Holiday Pet SafetyStay safe! These foods/beverages should always be kept away from pets:
- Turkey Bones: Turkey (and chicken) bones and splintered fragments can get stuck in the roof of the mouth, throat, and intestines.
- Tomatoes: all kinds are toxic to cats, including parts of the tomato plant. Ingesting even a single cherry tomato can cause severe gastrointestinal upset.
- Alcohol: alcohol poisoning can lead to coma and death
- Gum, candy: many candies and gum contain XYLITOL which can cause toxic or fatal liver damage to pets. All products containing xylitol should be kept well out of pets' reach.
- Mushrooms: Certain species of mushrooms, including those growing in damp areas of your yard, are toxic to pets and can cause shock and death.
- Raw potatoes (especially with green spots)
- Turkey skin
- Nutmeg
- Peach, apricot, other fruit pits (contain cyanide)
- Caffeine: anything containing caffeine is dangerous
- Grapes and raisins: can cause renal failure
NEVER allow your pet to rummage through trash. Moldy food contains toxins that can cause serious illness. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you suspect that your pet has ingested any of these items. Have a safe and happy holiday season with your pets!

Help the Animals Own ABC!
ABC takes in animals that would not have a chance anywhere else. It takes a lot of money to pay for the veterinary care, food, and utilities required to keep us healthy and happy. On top of all those bills, ABC also has a mortgage. ABC was recently offered the chance to pay off the mortgage in full at a huge discount! If we can raise $100,000 by September 30, this wonderful place will be secure for all the animals that need ABC's special care and rehabilitation. If the goal is not met, all funds will continue to go toward veterinary care, food, and utilities, but we are confident that you will help us make the mortgage disappear. In this uncertain economy, it would be a huge relief to know our home could never be taken away.

Sweet Sophia Leads Rescuers toHer Six Stunning Puppies!
Sophia flagged down Jim and Laura Wilkes out on a hot street in Mesa. Once they stopped to help her, she led them to her six adorable puppies, only a few hours old.

Beautiful Scarlet Fighting Valley FeverFound on the reservation, Scarlet is getting the medical care she desperately needed. Covered in fleas and hit with the double whammy of Valley Fever and Tick Fever, Scarlet is now fighting off both illnesses with the help of her excellent doctors and her strong determination to get well again.

RESCUED: Trinity & Her Six PuppiesSweet Trinity was rescued along with her six beautiful puppies. Her doctors concluded that she had been hit by a car at some point in the past causing very severe damage to one of her legs. This extremely brave girl survived and has been limping around on her very painful leg for quite some time, all the while being a wonderful mother to her family.

Selene's Tale
ABC was one of 18 shelters in this year's Tales From the Pet Lover's Heart shelter contest. ABC submitted Selene's story and video and while we didn't win first place, ABC was selected as one of the four finalists! You can watch Selene's video along with the other 14 entries on the Tales From the Pet Lover's Heart website HERE. We've also posted the Selene's Tale video to the right in its correct widescreen aspect ratio. Thank you, Adam!
Adam, one of our wonderful volunteers, recently celebrated his Bar Mitzvah. Adam declined gifts and instead asked his friends and family if they would bring donations for ABC, and... WOW! Bonnie & Clyde
Mischevious Bonnie and Clyde were found running around the streets of Phoenix together. They were on something of a crime spree...if being absurdly adorable is a crime.
